Glimmerglass Networks, the leading supplier of intelligent optical layer management solutions, recently released Release 7.0, a new software that helps in setup, management and monitoring of its Intelligent Optical Systems. The software supports Simple Network Management Protocol Version 3 (SNMPv3), a critical standards-based interoperable protocol for network management that provides secure access by a combination of authenticating and encrypting packets over the network.
A comprehensive set of features in Release 7.0 will provide great benefits to networks that are standardized on SNMP for management.
“The need to manage optical signals and the optical layer with secure network infrastructure has never been greater than in today’s complex global environment,” said Robert Lundy, CEO of Glimmerglass Networks, in a recent press release. “We are pleased to release enhanced software that supports the latest industry standards for improved network security while at the same time delivering an even easier-to-use, more scalable software suite for managing optical signals and networks. Glimmerglass Networks software development is laser focused on improving efficiency, reducing costs and enabling our customers to reliably manage a growing number of our intelligent optical systems.”
Some of the salient features of Release 7.0 include:
SNMPv3, backward compatible with SNMPv2c and SNMPv1: Adds authentication, encryption, and access control over a standardized management interface;
SNMP Sets/Gets/Traps: Enables customers to fully provision, operate, and maintain Glimmerglass Networks Intelligent Optical Systems through SNMP;
Network Time Protocol support (NTPv4): Synchronizes system clock with authoritative time source.
Release 7.0 is another quality product from Glimmerglass Networks which is instrumental in providing purely optical, photonic switching systems to rapidly and remotely create, monitor, and reconfigure optical paths in networks supporting intelligence and defense agencies, telecommunications service providers, lawful interception, data centers and cloud computing. The systems provided by Glimmerglass enable customers to remotely manage optical networks in real time, reducing OPEX (News - Alert), enabling faster time-to-service and increasing network availability while providing investment protection.
