APCON to Integrate Network Monitoring Switches with Next-Gen SDN Controllers

December 18, 2012

APCON (News - Alert), a provider of intelligent data traffic management solutions for network monitoring and security, has launched a new program for Software Defined Networking (SDN) that aims to integrate APCON network monitoring switches with the coming generation of SDN controllers.

With this announcement for the SDN segment, APCON is responding with its own development effort to integrate the network monitoring system and its specialized features with SDN-controlled networks. According to Richard Rauch, president and CEO of APCON, Software Defined Networking is clearly the next generation of data center management, and APCON has a solid foundation in the principles and technical requirements that define the concept.

SDN separates network data flow control from the physical hardware that makes up a network. Software Defined Networking offers several advantages including greater flexibility to apply resources as needed without extensive remodeling of the physical network. Since all data flow is controlled through software, the solution can execute processes such as bandwidth provisioning, load balancing, monitoring, and security response more quickly. Several standards have been proposed to actualize this concept.

The industry has already witnessed the emergence of SDN-compatible products. Some of the products include those from Cisco, Hewlett-Packard (News - Alert), IBM, NEC, Juniper Networks, Brocade Communications, Arista Networks, and Extreme Networks.

APCON is known for its innovative, scalable technology solutions designed to enhance network monitoring, support intelligent data traffic analysis, and streamline network management and security.

At the recently concluded INTEROP, APCON announced a host of network monitoring and network diagramming products. They include time stamping, packet slicing, network Taps, and high density 10G and 40G Ethernet.

The company also announced APCON’s INTELLASTORE compact 1G/10G network monitoring switch that offers 1.5TB of onboard disk space and the ability to record, play back and analyze network data captures using an embedded copy of the Wireshark analysis software.
