Exinda Helps Enterprises Deal with Network Pressure of Major Events

Exinda, a provider of next-generation WAN optimization solutions, has released a white paper called, "The 5 Best Practices to Assure Your Network for the Next Big Social Event" that provides tips to help enterprise networks deal with the tremendous pressure during major events such as Olympics.

The recently concluded 2012 Olympic Games wreaked havoc on many enterprises as employees streamed live coverage of the Olympics on their smartphones, tablets, PCs and laptops while they are at work.

According to the data available to Exinda, employees that streamed the Olympics online while at work sucked as much as 60 percent of corporate network bandwidth, and most enterprises failed to stop it from affecting the performance of their strategic applications.

This “Socialympics” phenomenon, as explained by Exinda, is imminent with major big social events like the U.S. elections and Major League Baseball playoffs planned for this fall. Any unplanned events also may crop up wherein enterprises will have to act immediately to manage the unpredictable data flow created by these instances.

According to Exinda, enterprises need to act now and prepare their networks to assure reliable user experience for the applications that are most strategic to their business.

"Cases like the City of Los Angeles pleading publicly for workers to stop using their corporate network for streaming Olympics coverage underscores the issue most enterprises face during large social events," said Brendan Reid, vice president, product marketing for Exinda, in a statement.

"Without granular visibility into internet traffic and the ability to apply user and usage context to prioritize all traffic, most networks don't have the control they need to assure user experience where it's needed most," Reid added.

To ensure the "gold-medal performance" for their networks during such events, enterprises must have “the ability to assess user and application context, ability to control and prioritize traffic, and the ability to monitor and assure user experience,” according to the whitepaper.

Exinda’s WAN optimization solutions help organizations improve end-user experience, manage application performance, manage congestion over the WAN and reduce network operating costs for the IT executives.

Earlier in June Exinda announced it has been deployed by global real estate services provider Savills to prioritize and control business critical traffic across its branch network and primary Internet circuit.
