Network Diagramming: Lancope to Demo Network Performance Capabilities

Network performance monitoring leader Lancope announced that it will continuously monitor network traffic by leveraging Cisco’s (News - Alert) NetFlow at Cisco Live, taking place July 10-14, in Las Vegas, in an effort to demonstrate the power of its product.

Lancope’s StealthWatch product delivers unprecedented visibility into network traffic – which can be useful in vastly improving both performance and security – by providing comprehensive monitoring capabilities across a wide range of Cisco routers and switches (including the Catalyst 3000, 4000 and 6000 Series Switches) and the ASA firewall.

"Cisco is relentlessly dedicated to optimizing enterprise infrastructure and the corporate networking experience," said Mike Potts, president and CEO of Lancope, in a statement. "We are honored to support these efforts by empowering organizations to seamlessly collect and analyze NetFlow for more secure, high-performance networks. NetFlow provides a very powerful and cost-effective means of seeing exactly what is going on within a network at any given time."

StealthWatch guarantees unified security, network and application performance monitoring across physical and virtual environments. The product gives a comprehensive overview at all times of what is going on in the network so that the system can address increasing demands that are placed on the infrastructure due to trends such as IT consumerization, user mobility, cloud computing, live telepresence and streaming video. In-depth network intelligence will become even more crucial moving forward as these innovations continue to strain IT resources and diminish the traditional network perimeter, according to company officials.

Through a single platform, StealthWatch eliminates network blind spots, cuts network and security management costs and dramatically reduces the time from problem onset to resolution. StealthWatch fills in the gaps between other network and security technologies to uncover not only the sophisticated, zero-day attacks that often bypass perimeter defenses, but also internal threats.

In related industry news, OPNET Technologies (News - Alert), a network diagramming leader, recently sat down with TMCnet to discuss how the company helped Altibox, a network operator based in Norway that provides a wide range of services including Internet access, interactive and high-definition TV and video-on-demand.

A couple of years ago, Altibox approached OPNET – a leading provider of network diagramming solutions – to figure out how to create and manage up-to-date network diagrams most efficiently. While it has been proven valuable to have current network diagrams to help address troubleshooting outages and misconfigurations, keeping diagrams current can be a cumbersome task. Moreover, since Altibox requires separate diagrams for each partner network, their data center, and their MPLS core, maintaining different diagrams manually became too time-consuming.
