DCIM Leader Integrates with Intel Data Center Manager for Environmental Monitoring
Data center infrastructure management leader Modius has decided to integrate its OpenData Enterprise Edition with Intel (News
- Alert) Data Center Manager, a real-time data center power and thermal management solution that is capable of capturing power and temperature data from a broad range of IT equipment.
The Intel DCM (News - Alert) environmental monitoring products will provide the OpenData Enterprise Edition with heightened visibility and analytics by supplying energy intelligence about critical IT facilities and assets.
“We are delighted to work with an industry leader like Intel,” said Craig Compiano, CEO of Modius, in a statement. “This collaboration between Intel and Modius results in a comprehensive solution that gives data center and facilities managers greater visibility into the operational efficiency of their IT equipment, as well as other equipment key to their mission critical ecosystem, such as Power Distribution Units (PDUs) .”
By integrating Intel DCM directly into Modius OpenData, company officials will be able to enjoy device- and rack-level capacity analysis with real-time alarming for power deviations; device- and rack-level temperature analysis with real-time alarming for temperature deviations; end-to-end visibility of the power chain from the UPS to individual servers; and floor-level cold spot and hot spot identification and remediation.
With these capabilities data center managers will able to see improved data center efficiency and lowered power costs and expanded data center capacity.
“Intel Data Center Manager coupled with OpenData Enterprise Edition enables data center operators to gauge device-level performance and take actionable steps to plan for capacity and reduce energy consumption,” said Jeffrey Klaus, director, Data Center Solutions, Intel. “OpenData dashboards and reports with data from Intel DCM gives operators increased intelligence across a heterogeneous landscape of IT and facilities equipment.”
One company that is paving the way for data center monitoring is ITWatchDogs, a leading provider of environmental monitoring products. Recently the company announced a new accessory product to its Series II Environmental Monitors.
Starting in May, ITWatchDogs added greater I/O capabilities to the line, by introducing the I/O Expander (IOE), which increased monitors’ sensors and relay output capacities by adding 32 additional dry contact / 0—5VDC analog inputs, eight extra digital sensor ports and three NO/NC relay outputs.
“The IOE is the first-of-its-kind smart accessory in the environmental monitoring industry offering 32 configurable analog inputs allowing users to monitor and set alarm thresholds for 0—5VDC signal and/or open or closed switches,” officials explained in a recent company newsletter. “The addition of three relay outputs enable users to trigger external devices like auto-dialers, strobe lights or back-up a/c units on alarm or manually through the web interface.”
