Data center power monitoring company Server Technology (News - Alert) is adding another accomplishment to its resume as the company has unveiled new firmware 6.1, a release that is unlike anything currently out there, according to company officials.
The latest firmware version boasts a new user-friendly interface and unique Systems Summary dashboard that allows data center managers to instantly know how much infeed power they are using and the status of the CDU.
“10 minutes after you start it up, you’re a pro,” Don Jones, senior field technician at Server Technology, told TMCnet.
“It’s so intuitive, easy to navigate and it gives you the information you need and can use,” Jones added. “I’m on the phone with customers or at customer locations every day. Customers are thrilled to see the new interface. It's head and shoulders above other CDU vendors’ firmware, and a big jump from our previous firmware version, too.”
For the past 25 years, Server Technology has been providing some of the biggest companies in the world with power management solutions.
In addition to announcing its latest firmware 6.1, the data center power monitoring company recently unveiled the Sentry Power Manager (SPM) 5.0, touted as an “unbelievable solution” for rack-level data center power management, provides significant innovations.
But this week, the company is celebrating the release of firmware 6.1, a release that boasts power monitoring, smart UPS functions and environmental monitoring, among other things.
Firmware 6.1 offers: each line status, the CDU, the expansion unit and the temperature and humidity probes on that IP address; uptime information, or how long that system has been up and running; an instantaneous view of power consumption in watts; alerts so that if pre-set thresholds have been exceeded data center managers can be tipped off; and temperature and humidity, which displays where you are within a 0 to 100 range.
“The new easy to use graphical interface provides at-a-glance power and environmental information,” Server Technology’s Senior Director of Software and Firmware Development Calvin Nicholson told TMCnet. “You’ll know immediately what’s going on in your data center.”
One of the main features of the GUI is that it displays individual outlet control. Accordingly, for switched CDUs, users can see the outlet name, status and control statue. Morevoer, they can enjoy the ability to control individual, group or global outlets for on, off and reboot.
When it come to data center power monitoring, the monitoring functionality allows data center managers to view input feeds and power consumption, displayed as status, power, voltage and load. They can also receive information on the system for total power (watts) and total area (how much wattage per square foot).
Another unique feature of the latest version is that it offers smart load shedding so that if temperature or load current exceeded defined thresholds, or if the UPS loses power and goes onto battery, all or a portion of the load can be automatically shed to ensure longer operational life of critical devices.
“Believe me, I’ve worked in this business for a long time and the combination of our CDUs and this new interface to manage them is terrific,” Jones said.
