An agreement has been struck between Power Assure, a data center infrastructure management vendor, and In-Q-Tel (News - Alert) (IQT), to target 17 U.S. Intelligence Community member agencies. These members include Central Intelligence agency, Federal Bureau of Investigations, Department of Homeland Security and others.
According to a DatacenterDynamics article, IQT positions itself as a strategic investment firm, focused on the identification, adaptation and provision of technology solutions to support Intelligence Community members’ missions. The company has a clear goal to identify and partner with vendors that offer such solutions.
Power Assure and IQT will work together to focus on reducing the consumption of data center power among federal agencies. Brad Wurtz, Power Assure president and CEO, noted that the deal is expected to expand federal business for the company. Their data center power monitoring solutions have already found success in the federal market, which will help with adoption.
The core data center power product offered by Power Assure is its EM/4 Data Center Energy Management platform. This solution provides real-time and historical power utilization data for data centers, and an analysis tool to make intelligent use of that data.
William Strecker, IQCT CTO, told DatacenterDynamics that Power Assure’s software is designed to offer its customers in the U.S. Intelligence Community the capabilities necessary to drive additional efficiencies into their data center through the management of data center power consumption. The company’s offerings will optimize asset utilization and a align power management with business processes.
Agencies within the U.S. government are under increased pressure to reduce their overall spend on IT, while increasingly providing the access, capabilities and security necessary to operate efficiently. This requires an increased focus on preserving the consumption of data center power to reduce electricity spend. This reduction is necessary to create sustainable environments.
Both commercial and non-profit organizations throughout the global marketplace are increasing their efforts to monitor data center power to operate more efficiently. At the same time, these organizations are capturing, storing and analyzing increasing amounts of data, creating a more challenging environment to create the necessary efficiencies.
Working with proven vendors in the field should help to change this course in the data center field, enabling companies and nonprofit agencies to continue to make quality use of their data, without exceeding the costs their budgets will allow. This does demand consist data center monitoring, yet the benefits in the end will prove it worth the investment.
