Data center managers all over are constantly looking for ways to increase the amount of data center power while still maintaining costs, and it looks like data center and managed services provider CoreLink Data Centers has found a way. By upgrading its UPS systems at its Chicago, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Seattle data centers – thanks to its partnership with Schneider Electric (News - Alert) – CoreLink Data Centers will be able to increase client power capacity in 200kW increments up to 600kW.
This announcement spells good news, in particular, for small and medium sized clients whose requirements constantly change, according to company officials. CoreLink says Schneider Electric's Symmetra Megawatt UPS yields efficiencies of more than 95 percent at over 30 percent per load, minimizing its UPS-related power consumption, according to a recent article.
"Our company and Schneider Electric have enjoyed a long standing working relationship whereby we've utilized APC (News - Alert) rack mount PDUs and NetShelter SX cabinets at each of our data centers," Loren Zweig, CoreLink's vice president of engineering said in a statement. "We have also leveraged Schneider Electric's TAC Building Management System to monitor and manage power usage and cooling operations at each of our facilities, a key aspect of CoreLink's green initiative."
Added Mike Hagan, vice president, enterprise sales, Schneider Electric, "CoreLink's dedication to providing mission critical data center services to its expanding client base, supported by its 100 percent SLA, involves the guaranteed delivery of a steady supply of power required to maintain the IT infrastructure. We look forward to continuing to work with CoreLink so that each CoreLink customer receives reliable data center power and cooling products and related services."
Another company that is constantly finding ways to monitor and trend data center power is Server Technology (News - Alert). Recently, the company unveiled the Sentry Power Manager (SPM) Management Pack for the Microsoft (News
- Alert) System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2.
“This comprehensive integration of SPM, our data center power measurement and monitoring solution, with System Center Operations Manager 2007, gives data center professionals a comprehensive dashboard view to manage their networked cabinet power distribution units (CDUs), including all alerts, alarms and power and environmental information,” said Calvin Nicholson, senior director of software and firmware development. “It’s an incredibly effective and scalable solution for data center power monitoring and capacity planning needs.”
The Server Technology SPM management pack boasts an SPM Application Program Interface (API) which allows consumers to enjoy graphical measuring, monitoring and trending of data center power through the data center enterprise.
