Server Technology (News - Alert), a leader in data center power monitoring solutions, is shedding the spotlight on its Sentry Basic Cabinet Power Distribution Unit (CDU) product family this month, a product that Server Technology touts as the only of its kind in the data center space.
The Sentry Basic CDU family offers a simple solution where reliable power distribution for equipment racks and other data center applications is needed.
The Basic CDU family was originally developed after Sever Technology’s line of Smart and Switched intelligent CDUs.
“We specialize in high-end CDUs that provide more features and more value, but we've also recognized that there is a demand for simple reliable power distribution as well,” Brandon Siri, senior marketing representative for Server Technology, told TMCnet in a recent interview. “Market demand is the reason we originally built out a basic line, and it's also the reason we continue to build out new Basic CDUs today. “
According to Siri, the data center power company noticed that there were few power and outlet options available in basic units across the market, and therefore saw an opportunity for Server Technology to address an unmet need.
“With this in mind, our engineers are bringing the same mission-critical performance found in our intelligent CDU families and producing new models of Basic CDUs for data center managers who just want a super low cost solution to deliver power with branch circuit protection,” Siri added.
The Basic product family stands out among other CDUs as it does not have the network interface and power monitoring features found in the Smart and Switched line. It also does not have the onboard LED to measure power like Server Technology’s Metered family.
Instead, the Basic CDU product is a simple power strip for data center server racks that can be mounted vertically (Zero U).
Perhaps the biggest advantage of the Basic CDU family, however, is its pricing and its design.
“It's very affordable and perfect for data center managers who just need to plug devices in,” Siri said. “Our engineers have also taken our efficient design and applied it to these units. By design, it's the highest quality low-end CDU on the market.”
Moreover, it’s simple to use, is reliable and is fully supported by Server Technology’s engineering expertise.
“We recognize that not all data centers require the high-end intelligent features, and sometimes a basic solution is all that is needed,” Siri said. “For those data centers, we have the product line built out and we will continue to grow it as the market demands it.”
So how have customers been responding to the Basic CDU family? Very well, as Server Technology’s products have begun making their dent in the market in all types of companies.
Some of the world’s largest companies are currently deploying Basic Units.
“Recently, one of the world's biggest computer manufacturing companies required a Basic CDU that could distribute 60 amps of power,” Siri said. “No product on the market was both basic and 60 amp. So our engineering team built out a Basic, 208V, 3-Phase, 50/60 Amp CDU with (12) C13 and (12) C19 outlets. This is the first of its kind.”
“Consumers are happy to see that we apply the same passion and innovation to our Basic CDU products as we do to our high-end products,” he added.
