Server Technology has a long list of customer success stories, including its work with an online interactive media company. When the media company was looking to install 48 single corded HP DL350’s into its APC Net Shelter server cabinets using one power in-feed per cabinet, Server Technology (News - Alert) had the answer.
Server Technology, a global leader in power distribution products and power monitoring software, creates solutions related to data center power and telecommunications.
Recently, a media company met with the data center power company to find a solution that would give it the ability to remotely mange and reboot its web servers in the event that they locked up. The company was also looking to control all the PDUS in its data center from a central interface.
Server Technology’s Switched CW-24VDX454A1 was the product selected to meet the company’s needs.
The Switched PDU, a 60Amp, 3-Phase Delta, 208V PDU with (18) IEC (News - Alert) C13 and (6) IEC C19 outlets and the Sentry Power Manager Software solution, is a high-density intelligent PDU that allows the media company to see the load on the circuits so that devices can be properly installed to maximize capacity, according to Server Technology. Because the product boasts a built-in network interface, the media company has the ability to cycle power and reboot individual or groups of outlets remotely.
Through its Web interface, the Switched PDU also supports two temperature and humidity probes and that data can be read through the interface.
Any environmental concerns the media company might have had about rising temperatures were quelled with the product as the Switched PDU sends e-mail alerts about both data center power and environmental conditions.
“This particular PDU also has middle entry for the network, environmental, and serial connections so it's easy to invert the PDU in the instance that it is installed in an overhead power environment,” explained Server Technology on its site. Sentry Power Manager (SPM) was also deployed as part of the solution. SPM is a software appliance that helps managers address data center power related challenges by measuring, monitoring and trending power at the server cabinet level. SPM is designed to continuously poll hundreds of PDUs, anywhere in the world, and store the accumulated data.
“Sentry Power Manager is currently being used in networks at some of the world’s largest companies,” Brandon Siri, senior marketing representative for Server Technology, told TMCnet in a recent interview. “With well over 225 installations of SPM in companies all over the world, SPM in conjunction with Sever Technology CDUs is allowing those businesses to gather the critical data they need to make smarter business decisions regarding their data centers.”
