Data Center Network: University Selects RACKWISE to Manage IT, Network Infrastructure

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

A major California State University has selected the RACKWISE (News - Alert) Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) product to manage every IT and network controlled asset for the university.

Officials with Rackwise said that the breadth and flexibility of the company’s solution were major factors in the university's selection process, enabling the university to effectively and efficiently track, manage, control and optimize assets beyond those housed solely within the campus data centers.

Company officials said that the university plans to use RACKWISE to manage its expansive remote asset inventory, including all VOIP handsets, Cisco (News - Alert) TelePresence units, more than 2500 dorm room set top boxes and associated satellite dishes, on-campus security cameras, and over 5,000 door locks.

RACKWISE will track, manage, and control the services associated with voice, security, and dorm room video distribution, etc.

"California state universities are recognized around the world as progressive, solutions-oriented leading education institutions and our initial contract within the distinguished California State University system is highly significant on multiple levels,” said Guy A. Archbold, chief executive officer, Rackwise, in a statement.

Rackwise, Inc., a San Francisco-based Nevada corporation, is engaged in software development and marketing within the growing markets for IT infrastructure, data center monitoring, management and optimization, data center cost efficiency and green data centers.

Archbold said that it marks the company’s entry into the 23-campus system with an innovative forward-looking implementation and master form of agreement that easily lends itself to adoption by the other 22 universities.

“Following our recently announced implementation at New York University, we are pleased and proud that Rackwise continues to perform a vital role in the higher education learning environment," he added.

Archbold said that this installation is a clear indicator of how DCIM is evolving and how Rackwise is leading in that evolution.

He said that security, network, and data center infrastructure management are all critical to the overall university learning and digital experience both on and off-campus, expanding the traditional DCIM focus beyond concentration solely on centralized data center assets.

“We look for this implementation to serve as an industry-agnostic blueprint moving forward with our future DCIM enterprise applications incorporating remote IT asset inventory management," he said.
