Courion Chooses NaviSite's Enterprise Cloud Services for Delivery of Secure Access

By Kerry Doyle, Contributing Writer

NaviSite (News - Alert), Inc. recently announced that Courion Corporation, an expert in identity and access management for access risk, selected NaviSite's NaviCloud platform to deliver its CourionLive(TM) identity and access management in the cloud via Software-as-a-Service (SaaS (News - Alert)).

A public cloud is a hosted cloud computing environment that does not rely on hardware or data center infrastructures owned by the company. The company typically pays a monthly fee to a third party provider based on resource usage. This is the most familiar type of cloud computing. Some of the services provided by cloud computing can be categorized as an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) or Software as a Service (SaaS).

With PaaS, tools include operating systems and required services that focus on a specific application, as well as abilities to access necessary services and specialized local resources. SaaS follows a similar model for software and applications.

Courion’s (News - Alert) use of NaviSite’s cloud is significant because privacy and security are key considerations when deciding whether to operate in a cloud computing environment. Existing encryption and accessibility standards help protect cloud computing data. The cloud, however, is an inherently shared environment. Segregation of data is achieved through various methods but often relies on a software layer such as delivering identity and access management via Software-as-a-Service.

"NaviSite's Managed Cloud Services platform provides flexible, on-demand provisioning of IT services that are reliable and secure, allowing organizations like Courion to scale their services up or down, based on demand,” said Brooks Borcherding, NaviSite’s president. “We are committed to the highest standards in security controls, processes and procedures for our NaviCloud Platform, giving Courion the peace of mind they need to leverage the cloud and expand their service offerings."

Enterprise customers depend on NaviSite for customized solutions, delivered through an international footprint of state-of-the-art data centers. In the case of Courion, the global software solutions company manages access risk for fourteen million users across more than 500 organizations.

Since security and availability incidents are a reality of any computing environment, it is wise for a company to take precautions, such as instituting access security management and maintaining geographically disperse data backups.

These help create a contingency plan for any downtime resulting from a system failure or unauthorized access. Courion's access risk management technology aligns user access privileges with corporate and regulatory governance policies. The company's cloud and on-premise solutions provide a full range of identity and access management functionality while demonstrating compliance and achieving quick time-to-value.
