StorSimple's Cloud Storage Systems Recognized for Innovation and Ease of Use

StorSimple, a company that integrates cloud storage for on-premise applications in Windows and VMware environments, recently received top honors in the storage systems category for Storage magazine/SearchStorage.com’s 2011 Product of the Year award. StorSimple offers a single storage appliance that delivers high-performance tiered local and cloud storage, live archiving, cloud-based data protection.

Two of StorSimple products – 5010 and 7010 –  won the Gold award from 11 finalists. Last year the company received the silver award for StorSimple 1010 appliance.

The award categories include Fibre Channel (FC) and iSCSI storage-area networks (SAN), network-attached storage (NAS), multiprotocol systems, direct-attached storage (DAS), hard disk drives, solid-state storage, disk controllers, caching appliances, storage virtualization appliances and cloud storage gateway appliances.

The judging panel consist of users, analysts, consultants and editors of Storage magazine and SearchStorage.com. The criteria for ranking include innovation, performance, ease of integration, ease of use and manageability, functionality and value.

 According to officials of StorSimple, the StorSimple appliance was the only cloud solution among the finalists in the category and also the only cloud integrated enterprise storage product across the award. StorSimple was recognized for its “automated tiering to cloud storage with built-in dedupe/compression reducing cloud storage usage fees.”

“Placing Gold for an award that is a staple of the storage industry is a tremendous honor,” said Ursheet Parikh, CEO of StorSimple, in a statement. “We mostly compete against the status quo, and the fact that the award recognizes us as better than status quo should signal to the market that it’s time to think about cloud-integrated storage. If any company is thinking about cloud, it should think StorSimple.”

Recently, the cloud storage provider  announced that Marc Farley has joined the company as senior director of community and customer programs.

According to Farley, cloud integration with enterprise storage will bring the next sweeping change to the industry and StorSimple has developed extremely sophisticated and powerful technology to pursue this opportunity.
