StorSimple's Enterprise Cloud Storage Simplifies Management of Storage Infrastructure
Cloud storage company StorSimple has transformed itself from a gateway cloud appliance vendor to a leading provider of cloud integrated enterprise storage that is capable of primary, backup, archival and disaster recovery. Certified by both Microsoft (News
- Alert) and VMWare, StorSimple’s enterprise class storage offers many benefits for enterprise and mid-sized companies.
Aside from enterprise class high-availability with fully redundant disk controllers, power supplies, and network connections, it ensures no single point of failure and supports non-disruptive software upgrades. Moreover, all data stored in the cloud comes with military grade encryption. To ensure complete data privacy with HIPAA requirements, StorSimple said that the encryption key is never given to anyone.
Some other key benefits include solid-state disk (SSD) performance, instant thin provisioning of massive live archives, fast backup and instant restore, simplified integrated management, and application optimized storage with data protection. Furthermore, because the appliance integrates multiple storage devices into one simple to manage enterprise cloud storage appliance, it slashes infrastructure costs, energy consumption and rack space requirements. According to StorSimple, the cloud storage company helps reduces cost by up to 80 percent. In this solution, storage capacity silos are replaced by one elastic storage pool with consistent deduplication and integrated cloud high-availability.
Combining the appliance’s SSD performance with elasticity of the cloud through automatic tiering based on a BlockRank algorithm. The algorithm does for blocks of content what Page Rank does for Google (News
- Alert), said StorSimple. The company also stated that automatic tiering moves older blocks to the cloud without the need for complex archival procedures.
In addition, incremental, on appliance deduplicated snapshots help reduce storage requirements by over 90 percent while delivering instant snapshot and restore technology in seconds as opposed to days. Similarly, the appliance offers one box approach to simplify integrated management. According to the maker, the integrated console dramatically simplifies the management of the whole storage infrastructure.
