Cloud Storage: Diskeeper Sheds Light on V-locity Release at Interop

By Carrie Schmelkin, TMCnet Web Editor

For 30 years, Diskeeper has been providing more than 90 percent of Fortune 500 companies, more than 67 percent of The Forbes Global 100 and thousands of enterprises, government agencies, and independent software vendors (ISVs) with reliable technologies for all Windows IT sites.

While at Interop (News - Alert) in New York City earlier this month, Diskeeper couldn’t help but bask in its 30th anniversary celebration.

To commemorate the occasion, Diskeeper recently unveiled the latest version of its Virtual Platform Optimizer, V-locity 3, a virtual platform disk optimizer that is allowing the company to make headway into the virtual sphere. V-locity is touted as having the ability to improve the overall IT efficiency and service level agreements while lowering cost of ownership as well as offering critical benefits to virtualization and private cloud implementation not otherwise obtainable.

“We are trying to flex opportunities that involve growth with the virtual sphere over the next three to five years and ride the crest of the wave and solve performance issues that come with this new environment,” Damian Giannunzio, product marketing manager at Diskeeper told TMCnet, at Interop of the latest release.

“We are innovators in storage performance technologies,” he added.

Some of the key benefits of V-locity include: reduced infrastructure TCO, lower Help Desk traffic, decreased energy costs, more time between hardware upgrades and overall increased productivity.

V-locity 3 has already seen a lot of adoption on virtual servers at the enterprise level, according to Giannunzio, and the company only suspects that there will be more saturation at the SMB level soon.

However, there must first be a greater understanding about the benefits of processes such as virtualization, cloud storage and cloud hosting before virtualization platforms can really take off.

“Virtualization is still very much trust-based and what we have is a glut of new buzz words that are constantly being thrown at both SMB and enterprise,” Giannunzio said. “The SMB doesn’t have the luxury of sifting through the somewhat nebulous information so marketing efforts are wasted on them right now. We need to see more adoption from enterprise first and more case studies of broad adoption with great success at that level and then we will start to see trickle down after that; they want it proven to them first.”

In the coming months and years, Diskeeper is looking forward to continuing to evolve the V-locity 3 production the market and promote more virtual infrastructures.

“Moving into the next year, we are really looking at expanding in new directions, maybe with new utilities that our existing customer hasn’t seen from us in the past,” Giannunzio said. “We are looking for new opportunities where problems are not yet being solved particularly in the virtual market. There will definitely be a new release of Diskeeper with some exciting upgrades that we are very enthusiastic about getting into the hands of our customers and new customers.”
