TwinStrata Delivers Cloud Storage with Security and Local Speed Performance
Thanking TwinStrata’s CEO Nicos Vekiarides (News - Alert) for coming to the TMCnet newsroom at the recent Cloud Expo 2011 at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City, TMC CEO Rich Tehrani asked Vekiarides to explain what his company does and shed some light on industry trends in cloud storage space. “Simply, we help organizations extend their data storage to the cloud,” replied Vekiarides.
What that means, continued Vekiarides, is that, “We give them an appliance, which could be virtual or physical.” Hence, it can be a software appliance that can be downloaded from our web site. Or, it can be a physical appliance that can be installed on premise explained Vekiarides. “What it does is that it takes cloud storage from one or many cloud providers and presents it as seamless iSCSI storage,” stated TwinStrata’s CEO.
Next, Tehrani asked the TwinStrata (News - Alert) CEO to explain how the company differentiated itself from other storage solution providers in the business. Expanding on this topic, Vekiarides said that one of the nice thing of our product is that we work with any cloud vendor, which gives our end user the opportunity to find the best price or performance or even find the best availability. As a result, he added, “They can mix and match across vendors and get the lowest price per gigabyte per cloud storage.”
Tehrani then was interested in knowing the trends in the cloud storage space. “Really, the last few years have been about bringing the utility model into the enterprise or into corporate space. Nothing really does it better than pay-as-you-go model,” stated Vekiarides.
With this model, you no longer have to think about replacing or throwing away every few years. “You can continue to grow and continue to only pay for what you are using,” explained Vekiarides. Further adding, he said, “We enable some real solutions that are often times very difficult, like the off-site consolidation for a disaster recovery. “Now you can do that within minutes with a cloud,” claimed the TwinStrata CEO.
Answering Tehrani’s quest for what’s next for the company, Vekiarides said that TwinStrata has rolled out a line of appliances for both virtualization and physical installation.
