Eltek Valere (News - Alert), a provider of high efficiency power systems, launched its new 48VDC battery distribution fuse bay (BDFB) at Battcon 2011, the International Stationary Battery Conference, held at Florida.

“The growth in mobile broadband applications and cloud computing is driving the need for higher power in networks, and that results in more demand for battery backup for increased reliability,” David Leal, vice president of North American Sales, Eltek Valere, said in a press release.

“Our new BDFB brings a new level of flexibility, remote management and control to these applications.”

Eltek promotes the new BDFB as a versatile, advanced-function distribution bay that can ensure a continuous power supply for large telecom networks and wireless mobile telephone switching offices. In addition, the company said that its 48VDC BDFB provides a variety of load busses and fuse options; it can be configured as a single bus bay or equipped with up to six separate load busses, depending upon the desired configuration. Both fuses and circuit breakers are accommodated.

With the capacity of 600A per bus at -48V, BDFB is said to deliver a maximum total current capacity of 3600A.

Key features of the BDFB include Eltek’s Smartpack2 controller, which offers remote and local access to system data; programmable settings and alarming; and monitoring. The color display panel displays load voltage and current on each bus. In addition to standard alarms, the Smartpack2 controller’s extensive programming capabilities allow for custom alarm threshold values, alarm grouping and more via both remote and local access. Additionally, an alarm battery supply (ABS (News - Alert)) is included, which provides continued alarm and controller access in the event of power loss. An audible alarm is also made available with a user-configurable on/off feature.

The BDFB is relatively easy to install and is field upgradable – the entire footprint is 15 inches deep by 7 feet tall, with optional 2- and 4-foot extensions. The cabinet can be configured with either an internal or external ground return bus assembly; optional external ground bars are also available. Moreover, the BDFB is designed for either top- or bottom-feed cabling.

Designed to meet or exceed NEBS, UL and CSA requirements, the new BDFB comes with two, four or six input feeds, each equipped with 800-amp shunts.
