Network Instruments announced that the migration to cloud computing services has increased significantly, according to results obtained at Interop (News - Alert) Las Vegas 2010.

The results, obtained by Network Instruments, are based on feedback given by respondents after implementing cloud services. Respondents reported that maximum gains were experienced because of increased application availability and scalability. The onsite survey was answered by 94 network engineers, IT managers and executives attending Interop 2011.

Cloud computing has witnessed a boost as 61 percent of respondents reported that they have deployed cloud computing services on their network in 2011. Half of them reported having implemented some form of software-as-a-service (SaaS), like Salesforce.com (News - Alert) or Google Apps.

According to analysts the increase was 10 percent when compared to SaaS adoption in 2010. Also 50 percent have deployed private clouds, indicating a 21 percent rise in adoption of private clouds. Some respondents revealed that they leverage some form of platform as a service (PaaS) such as Microsoft (News - Alert) Azure and Salesforce Force, according to a release.

The survey found that the percentage of applications running in the cloud will shoot up to 38 percent from 21 percent by mid-2012. Cloud services helped 61 percent of all respondents to improve application availability while only 4 percent reported decreasing availability. Also 52 percent of respondents felt that end-user experience improved.

In a release Brad Reinboldt, senior product manager of Network Instruments (News - Alert) said, “Although cloud adopters have reported improvements in application availability and cost savings, these improvements aren’t sustainable in the long run without appropriate monitoring tools.”

“When trouble does hit, it falls in the lap of the organization’s network team to prove that the problem is occurring on the cloud provider’s side. Without proof, organizations will waste time finger pointing, jeopardizing any cost savings or efficiency improvements,” Reinboldt added.

Network Instruments’ platform of management and reporting products provides comprehensive visibility into networks, infrastructure, and applications to optimize performance, speed troubleshooting, and also assist in long-term capacity planning The company is a leading provider of performance management and troubleshooting solutions, which helps organizations ensure the delivery of business-critical applications.

TMCnet also reported that video conference adoption surged at Interop in spite of concerns over bandwidth and quality metrics, according to the fifth annual study by Network Instruments.
