By Mini Swamy, TMCnet Contributor

Standing Cloud, an application management software company that helps to manage applications in the cloud is collaborating with Extentech, which is committed to creating the best editing and development platform with the flexibility and choice of open source.

Sheetster and the DocsFree project are sponsored by Extentech Inc. Sheetster for Standing Cloud offers real-time editing of spreadsheets and hence can be accessed from anywhere, anytime.

In a press release, John McMahon, CEO, Extentech Inc., said, “From the first time I tried Standing Cloud I was blown away with the fact that someone with no skills beyond using a Web browser can login and within 5 minutes have a sophisticated cloud-based web application online and at their fingertips.”

McMahon added that he began working toward providing Sheetster on the Standing Cloud platform as soon as he tried it out. He appeared confident that spreadsheet users and docs app developers were close to attaining entry to the exclusive club of the virtual private cloud.

Sheetster for Standing Cloud users have the tremendous advantage of moving their private cloud offices between different hosts. This ensures savings and does away with the risk of vendor lock in. Developers can customize the open source application files by using Sheetster's powerful APIs.

As the spreadsheet interface resembles an Excel spreadsheet , users can upload and edit their spreadsheets as they choose and be assured of support from Excel's advanced features including charts, conditional formatting and data validation. Excel 97-2010 files can also be edited with ease.

The Sheetster server is equally flexible and can be embedded onto other Web based and offline applications, giving users unlimited control. Frequent monitoring and hourly backups, auto-recovery and versioning compensate for downtime issues and slow servers.

Standing Cloud allows users to install and manage over 80 web applications, including leading CRM, CMS, ERP, and other packages.

“We are eager to work with great application developers like Extentech who help tap the power of the cloud with its intuitive, business-ready spreadsheet solution,” said David J. Jilk, CEO of Standing Cloud, in a statement.

In another news story, Standing Cloud, Inc., announced that its application layer solution is now available to customers of SoftLayer (News - Alert). Users can easily deploy, manage and develop web applications with Standing Cloud’s application solution using SoftLayer’s on-demand cloud hosting platform.
