Infonetics Research Recent Security Survey Reveals That Businesses want Hybrid CPE/SaaS Solutions

Infonetics Research (News - Alert) has announced the release of a market research study of security buying plans of 240 U.S. and Canadian small, medium, and large organizations from a wide variety of vertical markets. This latest report is named, Threat Protection and SaaS (News - Alert): North American Enterprise Survey.

Infonetics' Threat Protection and SaaS: North American Enterprise Survey gives an in-depth analysis on the product requirements and implementation plans of U.S. and Canadian organizations which are using security products and services. The survey mainly focuses on wish-lists and buying plans till 2012, the survey inquired businesses on their plans for protection against Web, IM, and e-mail threats and content-related attacks, from viruses and spyware to malware and data leakage.

The study covers brand awareness and ratings of content security manufacturers and hosted/cloud-based service providers, which include scorecards that reveal user perceptions of their strengths and weaknesses, top vendors and providers, plans for switching vendors, selection criteria, and last but not the least important product and service features.

Some of the companies which were covered for the survey are Appriver, AT&T, Barracuda, Blue Coat, CA eTrust, Check Point, Cisco, Citrix, F5 Networks, Fortinet, Google (Postini), HP (3Com/TippingPoint), IBM (News - Alert) ISS, IronPort, Juniper, Kaspersky, McAfee (Secure Computing), Microsoft, Panda, Perimeter eSecurity, Qualys, ScanSafe, SonicWALL, Sophos, Sunbelt, Symantec (News - Alert), Trend Micro, WatchGuard, Websense, and zScaler.

In a release, Jeff Wilson the principal analyst for network security at Infonetics Research mentioned, "Most companies in North America have something in place to protect themselves from spam and malware already, but when upgrading or purchasing new protection, they face a critical decision of whether to invest in technology and build out their own content security infrastructure, subscribe to hosted/cloud-based services, or deploy a hybrid of those two options. About half of the businesses we interviewed in our recent security survey plan to go the straight-CPE route, while most of the balance plans to pursue a hybrid approach.”
