Four Approaches to Enhancing Application Performance Monitoring

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

There’s a good post on HubPages that talks about improving the efficiency of application performance monitoring.

The post builds off the premise that the reason you’re buying application software and installing it in your system isn’t for the sheer joy of spending money, but to actually ensure the smooth running of your IT business. We assume everybody’s on the same page with this.

So you need to know that what you buy is suitable for your IT services. Here’s where application performance monitoring comes in. As the post says, it’s intended to assure you proper functioning of the programs.

“If the deteriorating position of your computer application program is creating doubts in your mind regarding the efficiency of the program,” then you need application performance monitoring to help manage and monitor the performance of the applications or various software programs. People dealing with IT services are particularly interested in such help. Such tools can detect or diagnose the programs and offer reports containing details about the errors and required improvement for the application programs.

So here are four ways to see how much performance you’re getting from your application performance monitoring tools:

They must be identifying the business requirements. With application and operational approaches, the application delivery requirements can be defined properly. This leads to fulfillment of all the technical requirements for the applications.

They must help with development of the application, such as identifying the operational requirements and giving you a way to figure out the troubles that the end users face, and fix them.

They should give you a way to look at the performance and capacity of the program. “You cannot lose your customers at a stage where each of them serves to be the building block for the generation of traffic for the programs,” as the post notes.

They must offer ongoing production support so you can ensure delivery of the application to the end users.
