BizCloud Releases Tips for Server Performance Monitoring of Cloud-Hosted Applications

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

BizCloud, a cloud technology solutions provider, has released best practices for effectively monitoring the servers and performance of cloud-hosted applications.

As cloud grows more ubiquitous, many tech companies find themselves scrambling to adapt hosted Web applications. IT companies and other businesses that rely on cloud hosted applications experience a unique set of challenges, according to BizCloud.

Thankfully, the market has witnessed the emergence of several real solutions for dealing with a cloud-based network and hosting infrastructure. For example, application performance monitoring and server monitoring tools are focused specifically on cloud-hosted applications. Low cost SaaS (News - Alert) and IaaS solutions are growing ever more attractive to both SMBs and enterprise level corporations.

To implement server and performance monitoring best practices, BizCloud suggests developers and engineers take advantage of SaaS server monitoring tools. Server monitoring tools offer a deep level of insight into how cloud-based applications interact with servers and affect CPU, memory, and network (whether virtual or physical) performance.

The second suggestion is to monitor end-user experience. Real user monitoring (RUM) gives companies insight into what's happening on their customers' client side applications (usually a browser). They get valuable information about the number and processing time of browser queries and what that translates to in terms of actual user experience.

As part of these best practices strategies ,BizCloud also suggests enterprises implement a robust application performance monitoring (APM (News - Alert)) tool. An effective APM tool lets developers monitor the performance of both customer-facing and underlying service-level applications. APM tools are an asset to the company because they allow developers to create and deliver optimized cloud hosted applications much more efficiently.

Also, implementing a proactive OS monitoring and response tool and creating a schedule for operating system patching will work good. OS monitoring and response tools that automatically identify, terminate, and restart troublesome host processes are available at affordable cost.

Lastly BizCloud advises companies to treat databases just like they would treat operating systems. The same rules for monitoring, patching, and updating operating systems apply for maintaining a company's key database infrastructure.

Recently the cloud technology and marketing experts at BizCloud also offered tips to help online gaming companies understand how the strategic deployment of an application performance management solution in gaming application development can result in significant savings and improved customer satisfaction and retention.
