Lancope to Monitor Network Traffic for FIRST Conference

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Lancope, a provider of flow-based security, network and application performance monitoring solutions, has been selected to monitor and protect network traffic for the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST) annual conference, to be held June 12 to 17, in Vienna, Austria.

StealthWatch from Lancope is a flow-based monitoring tool that delivers in-depth network visibility across physical and virtual environments by leveraging NetFlow and other flow data from existing routers and switches.

The StealthWatch will support Cisco 's Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) mobile monitoring and networking solution to provide on-site network and computer security monitoring.

“First utilized at FIRST 2007, our mobile monitoring and networking solution provides secure, on-site networking for conference attendees,” said Gavin Reid, FIRST 2011 program chair and senior manager, Cisco (News - Alert) CSIRT, in a statement.

“The FIRST conference brings together top security professionals to share ideas on how to improve global computer security, and our mobile solution combines the leading network and security technologies they need to confidently stay connected while out of the office,” Reid added.

According to Reid, Lancope’s StealthWatch System was selected for their mobile rack because it captures the full power of NetFlow without requiring extensive time or resources from IT teams.

StealthWatch, according to Reid, is characterized by in-depth flow data, application analysis and an easy-to-understand, graphical user interface. With these features, it becomes a versatile tool for monitoring and responding to a wide variety of incidents.

“We are honored to be collaborating with these two powerhouses – FIRST and Cisco – to help improve the global threat detection landscape,” said Mike Potts, president and CEO of Lancope. “In today's dynamic technology environment, the status quo and conventional security tools are no longer enough to keep networks secure and intellectual property protected. Lancope is therefore leading the charge to vastly improve the way we address current and future security challenges, leveraging flow data from existing systems to provide a massively scalable, end-to-end view of any and all traffic on the network.”
